Concurring with Mr Naidu's views, Mr S Nagarajan, co-founder and chief people officer of 24/7Customer, said IT/ITES had barely scratched the surface and the BPO industry was extremely young and getting to go global. He said rising costs would put paid to India's ambition of being a major player in the global IT scenario.
On the issue of special economic zones (SEZ), Mr Rostow Ravanan, CFO at MindTree Consulting, noted that even the existing rules posed several challenges. “We believe that the SEZ authorities have not been fully briefed about the SEZ policy itself. As IT/ITES players, we find the policy posing quite a few challenges as we are not so physical-driven like the apparel and gems & jewellery sector," he added.
Mr Ravanan called the fringe benefit tax as an administrative nightmare, thanks to the increasing complexity caused by the numerous items of expenditure coming under its ambit.

The study - the first of its kind - looked at the records of the top leaders of the nations 178 mainstream Roman Catholic dioceses, including acting administrators in cases where the top job is vacant.
Excluded from the study were auxiliary bishops who, in larger dioceses, serve in subordinate roles but still can vote on many matters before the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the 17 bishops who lead eparchies, which are diocese-like entities that worship according to the Eastern rite.
In checking whether a bishop had protected priests or other church representatives accused of sexual abuse, reporters Brooks Egerton and Reese Dunklin relied on published reports, court records, interviews and church records obtained in civil litigation.
