Mitra and many others in Silicon Valley are rooting for Yahoo to roar back and capitalize on its status as the Web's most popular destination, if for no other reason than to keep Google in check. But, she said, she's not optimistic. "Yahoo has a great opportunity still because it has tremendous traffic and a tremendous brand," said Mitra, who posted her analysis on the popular technology blog GigaOM. "But it can't figure out what it wants to be when it grows up." A clear vision that plays to the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company's fundamental strengths is what investors want from co-founder Jerry Yang, who replaced Terry Semel as chief executive over the summer. But instead of defining a bold road map, Yang offered broad strokes: Yahoo would aim to become the starting point for Internet users and a must buy for advertisers.

John, Eldersburg: A taxpayer 70 1/2 (or older) has two traditional IRAs, one with a balance of $20,000 consisting of $6,000 of nondeductible contributions and $14,000 of deductible contributions and earnings. The second IRA has no nondeductible contributions. When a direct transfer of $1,000 is made from the first IRA to a qualified charity by the IRA trustee, how is that tax-free exclusion reported on Forms 1040 and 8606?
SC&H Group: A new provision added to the Internal Revenue Code in 2006 allows taxpayers that have reached the age of 70 1/2 to "distribute" up to $100,000 directly from an IRA to a qualified charitable organization without being subject to taxation on such distribution.

She survives. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving from 1944 until 1946. While in the Navy, he was sent to Purdue University for training in electrical engineering. In the Navy, he was assigned to the USS Kula Gulf, which was a carrier vessel escort. After returning from the Navy, he joined his father and other family members in Smith Construction. Smith Construction was started by his grandfather, Aden Smith, in 1912 and initially they built bridges and poured concrete footings, later they only did road construction. He was eventually co-owner of Smith Construction. He was also a co-owner of Delphi Limestone Quarry. Along with his wife, Jean had wintered in Florida since 1976. He was a member of both Flora First Christian Church and Tropical Sands Christian Church. He has served as deacon, elder and was chairman of the board at Flora First Christian Church.
