FORMER SKATING CHAMPION DEAD: Bowman, 40, ex-Detroiter, found in hotel

Former U.S. men's figure skating champion Christopher Bowman, known as "Bowman the Showman" for his flamboyant personality on the ice and his oft-troubled life off it, died Thursday of a possible drug overdose in North Hills, Calif. He was 40.

Lt. Fred Corral, watch commander for Los Angeles County Coroner's Investigation Division, said Bowman -- who lived in the Detroit area from 1995 until last February -- was found dead in his motel room at the Budget Inn at 12:06 p.m. It is not known whether his death was accidental or suicide, Corral said. An autopsy is planned for today.

Woman, parents get probation in OD inquiry

A Randolph woman and her parents were admitted into a probation program Tuesday to resolve charges of trying to get rid of drug evidence before police arrived to investigate a death in their home in October.

Butternut Road residents Rachel Dimiceli, 20, and her parents Vincent C. Dimiceli, 56, and Lee Ann Dimiceli, 54, were accepted by Superior Court Judge Salem Vincent Ahto into Morris County's Pre-Trial Intervention program for first-time offenders.

None of the Dimicelis admitted any wrongdoing and criminal charges will be dismissed against them if they each successfully complete one year on probation.

Rachel Dimiceli's romantic partner, Marissa J. Cap, 19, of Randolph, had spent the night at the house and was found dead of a suspected drug overdose on Oct. 21. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call from the house at 2:22 p.m.

Prague Nightclub Owner Makes Heath Ledger Drug Claims

Heath Ledger feared cocaine would kill him, according to a nightclub owner who alleges he took the drug with the late star. John-Bruce Shoemaker has come forward with his claims just one week after Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment at the age of 28.

Shoemaker claims he supplied Ledger with cocaine at his Prague nightclub Marquis De Sade when the Australian star was in the Czech capital to shoot movies A Knight's Tale and The Brothers Grimm in 2000 and 2003.

He tells the National Enquirer, "I supplied him with cocaine and we did it together. There were lots of beautiful girls in my club, but he was only interested in drugs."

And Shoemaker claims Ledger once told him, "If I'm not careful, this stuff would kill me."

An autopsy was unable to establish the cause of Ledger's death, although police believe his death could be drug-related as five different bottles of prescription drugs were found around his apartment.
