| Keith Tkachuk notches first multi-goal game of season as Blues edge ...
He had two assists at Dallas against the Stars on Dec. 29. "When things aren't going in, you just have to get to the net," said Tkachuk, who also scored 40-plus goals twice and 30-plus goals four times. "Fortunately, I found a way. You just have to keep plugging away, you can't change your game." Tkachuk got on the board quickly, tipping defenceman Bryce Salvador's shot past Leafs goatender Vesa Toskala at 1:18 of the first period. The game was delayed for a couple minutes as officials checked whether Tkachuk's stick was too high when he tipped the puck. They ruled his stick was below the crossbar when he deflected it past Toskala. "Yeah, I was a little concerned about it because it was right on the borderline of being a high stick, but fortunately I was out away from the net a little bit," Tkachuk said.
Man accused in pregnant girlfriend's death
Linn County deputies have charged a Lyons man for the shooting death of a pregnant Salem woman. Christopher Weston, 27, is accused of shooting Tanicia Kay Velasco during an argument Thursday about their relationship, Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller said. Deputies arrested Weston about 2 a.m. Sunday. He is being held in Linn County Jail on a charge of murder. Velasco, 23, was late in her first trimester or early in her second at the time of her death. Part of the argument involved her pregnancy, Mueller said. The shooting occurred about 8:15 a.m. Thursday at Weston's home in the 100 block of Sixth Street in Lyons. Investigators initially were told Velasco had shot herself in the chest, Mueller said. However, subsequent interviews with witnesses and review of the crime scene led deputies to think Weston pulled the trigger.
